Setting Up WordPress

WordPress 4 Comments

So, I’ve installed WordPress fairly easily, however there are a number of issues I need to resolve before I move forward and start using the blog on a regular basis:

  • Permalink structure not working – When I chose something other than the standard structure I just get page not found errors for everything. Obviously something is not working correctly. Some Apache mod not activated. Not sure. To me this this something that absolutely needs to be resolved for me.
  • Need a good theme - I need to find a theme to use that I am happy with as a base before I start to modify it. Not really liking the ones included with the initial install. Looked at a few others that I think I might be OK with. I’ll have to check them out over the next few days as time permits.

OK, I was about to publish this. I’ll need to figure out what the difference is between a category and a tag…

    RE: Permalink Issue

Found it. Needed to add AllowOverride All to the apache config.

Got the username fixed also… Hmm, but why does not not indicate me as admin in the color scheme…

    Note to self:

Here’s the link to change the color of the author/admin comment to stand out. Other themes may account for this.

OK, I’ve chosen to use the “basic” theme for the time being. Looks simple and clean.
